Frozen Fruit Tips & Tricks

As seasonal fruits come and go, it's always wonderful to have a way to preserve our favourite fruity flavours for longer. Freezing fruit whole is an excellent method so we’re sharing a guide on which fruits can be frozen whole, helping you enjoy their taste all year round.

Blueberries

Blueberries are small, mighty, and freeze exceptionally well. Simply wash and dry them thoroughly before spreading them on a baking sheet to freeze individually. Once frozen, transfer them to an airtight container or freezer bag.

Strawberries
Although larger strawberries may lose some texture, smaller ones can be frozen whole with great success. Hull them first to make using them later easier, then lay them out on a tray to freeze before storing them in a container or bag.

Feijoas
These beloved fruits can also be frozen whole. Peel them first and place them in a single layer on a baking sheet. Once they’re solid, pop them into a freezer bag for easy storage.

Kiwifruit
Kiwifruit can be frozen whole, but for best results, peel them first. They can be a refreshing addition to smoothies or desserts straight from the freezer. An added kick!

Plums
Plums can be frozen whole if they’re smaller varieties. Wash and dry them, and make sure they’re laid out in a single layer to freeze before storing them.

Tamarillos
While tamarillos can be a bit tricky, they do freeze well. Peel them first, and follow the same method of freezing on a tray before bagging.

Tips for Freezing Fruits Whole:

Use airtight containers or freezer bags: To prevent freezer burn and maintain quality.

Label and date your fruits: This helps you keep track of their freshness.

Use within 8-12 months: For the best flavour and texture.
Preserving your fruits by freezing them whole ensures you have a taste of summer (or winter) at your fingertips, even in the colder months.

Enjoy adding them to smoothies, desserts, or simply as a frozen treat.

Happy freezing, baking and smoothie making!
