Probably the juiciest citrus you can buy. Sweet up front with a tang behind it that stops them being sugary, full soft segments, and a thin skin that comes away without needing a knife.

They're at their best cold and straight out of their skins, but the juice is where they really earn their place. A few of them make a glass that's richer and sweeter than orange juice. They also hold their flavour beautifully in preserves, desserts and baking.

Tangelos have quietly become an old-fashioned fruit. Fewer trees go in every year and you won't often find them sitting in a supermarket, so if you grew up eating them or you've been looking for them, this is the window.

Around 95% of New Zealand's tangelo crop is grown right here in Gisborne, the citrus capital of the country. The season is short, and once it's done, that's it until next year.

Storage

Tangelos keep on the bench for about a week and up to three weeks in the fridge.
The skin is thin, so if you're not eating them quickly, the fridge is the better bet.

Overnight delivery to the North Island and Christchurch. Two-day delivery to the rest of the South Island.
Rural deliveries may take an extra day.
