Chesnok Red is a Standard Purple Stripe hardneck variety, and it's one of the most visually stunning garlics you'll come across - striking purple-striped wrappers that hint at the quality inside.

Eaten raw, it delivers a robust, full-bodied garlic flavour with a medium heat that lingers pleasantly without being sharp or overwhelmingly sulphuric.

But it's in the oven where Chesnok Red truly earns its reputation. Roasting transforms it completely - the heat mellows, the sugars develop, and you're left with a soft, creamy, exceptionally sweet flavour that some describe as reminiscent of caramelised onions or roasted chestnuts.

Storage
