Details

The green kiwifruit is one of New Zealand's most iconic exports, and for good reason. The Hayward variety - the classic fuzzy-skinned green kiwi was actually developed right here in New Zealand in the 1920s, and it remains the gold standard for green kiwifruit worldwide.

They have a flavour that's uniquely its own: tangy and sweet with a juicy, refreshing bite.

Beyond the flavour, green kiwifruit is remarkably good for you. Two kiwifruit deliver more vitamin C than an orange, and they're also a great source of fibre, folate, potassium, and vitamin K. Green kiwifruit also contains actinidin - a natural enzyme found almost exclusively in this variety - which helps with protein digestion and can ease that heavy feeling after a big meal.

Great on their own, sliced over yoghurt, blended into smoothies, or added to a fruit platter.

Approximately 10 kiwifruit per kilogram, depending on size and season.

Storage Info

Firm kiwifruit will continue to ripen at room temperature over a few days - perfect if you like to stagger your eating.

Once ripe (soft to the touch, like a ripe avocado), move them to the fridge where they'll keep well for a couple of weeks.

To speed up ripening, pop them in a bowl alongside apples or bananas.
