Details

Winter Nelis has been grown and loved since the early 1800s, developed in Belgium and introduced to the world as one of the finest late-season pears ever cultivated.
It's easy to see why it has stood the test of time. The skin is small and russet-brown, nothing flashy - but inside the flesh is fine-grained, buttery and melting, with a rich sweetness and a subtle vinous depth that makes it genuinely complex eating.

Unlike many modern varieties, Winter Nelis develops its full flavour after harvest, becoming richer and more honeyed as it ripens. It's also one of the best-storing pears available, holding in excellent condition for weeks - making it ideal for working through at your own pace.

Wonderful eaten fresh, but equally at home poached in red wine, baked in a tart, or served with good blue cheese and walnuts.

Approximately 4 pears per kilogram.

Storage

Winter Nelis pears continue to ripen beautifully after harvest.
Keep them at room temperature until they yield slightly when pressed near the stem - this is when the flavour is at its peak. Once ripe, move them to the fridge where they'll keep well for a week or two.
Unlike many pears, Winter Nelis stores exceptionally well - so there's no need to rush.

Overnight delivery to the North Island and Christchurch. Two-day delivery to the rest of the South Island.
Rural deliveries may take an extra day.
